Behind her rises her cottage, tall, narrow, and charmingly lopsided, as if it had grown rather than been built. Its steep roof is covered in rounded shingles that overlap like fish scales. High on the left side, a small round window divided by crossed panes looks out over the yard. Lower down on the left, an arched wooden door with its own tiny round window sits beneath a small curved awning, and a few stone steps lead up to it. On the right side of the house, an arched window glows beside the witch’s shoulder.
In the sky at the top right, a huge full moon hangs low, its surface dotted with craters. Four bats flutter through the night air, their wings spread wide. Two swoop near the upper left corner, one glides near the top of the witch’s hat, and another flies near the moon on the right.
