Christmas Complete the Picture – Tree with Ornaments
Half of a Christmas tree has already been set up in the living room, but the other side is still bare. In this Christmas complete the picture activity, children draw the missing branches and hang every last ornament, practicing symmetry and counting along the way. It’s the kind of Christmas math activity that feels more like decorating than homework.
The tree is drawn with crisp, straight lines that zigzag down from a pointed top, forming four tiers of branches. Each tier sticks out a little farther than the one above it, so the tree gets wider and wider toward the bottom, like a staircase turned on its side. The lowest tier ends in a long, flat base line. Round ornaments hang in neat rows along the center of the tree, and they follow a clever pattern. The top tier holds one ornament, the second tier two, the third tier three and the bottom tier four. That’s ten ornaments on this half, so children can count, copy the pattern and discover how many there will be on the finished tree.

Below the branches stands half of a short, square trunk, which will become a sturdy rectangle once the other side is drawn.
There is no star at the top yet, so young artists can finish the tree, then add a star of their own before coloring their creation in festive greens and bright ornament colors.
